‘The bulk of sheep on offer were stores which is unusual for this sale’

Some 650 lots were presented for sale at Kilkenny Mart on Monday (September 14th), according to George Candler.

The mart’s auctioneer reported another “solid” trade for all lambs.

Lambs still in demand, although based on this sale’s evidence, butcher and factory-type lambs are in short supply.”

“The bulk of sheep on offer were stores which is unusual for this sale,” Candler added.

Butcher lambs – €2.25-€2.41/kg or €112-€130/head:

  • X24 55kg – €126;
  • X10 54kg – €130;
  • X12 51kg – €116;
  • X10 50kg – €115.

Factory lambs – €2.25-€2.40/kg or €100-€113/head:

  • X10 48kg – €113;
  • X11 47kg – €112;
  • X12 45kg – €108;
  • X10 44kg – €101.

Store lambs – €2.25-€2.60/kg or €80-€95/head:

  • X19 38kg – €89;
  • X10 37kg – €84;
  • X12 36kg – €91;
  •  X10 33kg – €85.

Other categories:

  • Cast ewes – €65-€143/head;
  • Breeding hoggets – €160-€200/head.
