Suckler pairs reach €2,400 at Castlerea

A large entry of stock was presented for sale at Castlerea on Thursday (September 3rd), according to Brendan Egan.

“Demand for stock remains strong as we head into the peak autumn sales.” the mart manager explained.

Bullocks reached a top of €2.77/kg while heifers peaked at €2.67/kg with “a lot of farmer activity” this week.

“The weanling numbers continue to grow with strong demand from the exporters and farmers this week. The bulls topped out at €3.26/kg and heifers reached €3.47/kg. “

“The cows with calves at foot met a flier of a trade with €2,400 obtained for a Limousin cow and her Charolais heifer calf at foot.”

The top dry cows exceeded a €2.00 a kilo while the runners reported a good clearance.
