A lively trade prevailed – especially for quality lots – at Castlerea Mart on Thursday (June 18th), according to Brendan Egan.
The mart manager pointed out that in the heifer ring, top lots reached €2.64/kg, while in the weanling heifer, a top call of €3.31/kg was recorded.
Cows with calves at foot made up to €2,200 for a Charolais cow with a heifer calf at foot.
“Dry cows, with good numbers on offer, reported a strong trade also while the calves and runners reported a good clearance,” Egan added.

Bullocks fetched up to €2.66/kg, while weanling bulls climbed to €2.85/kg at the mart’s sale on Monday, June 15th.
“250 lots on offer and trade was helped by the recent improvement in grass growth,” Egan added.
