Trade holds firm at Ballinrobe despite Covid-19 concerns

A special continental heifer sale attracted some quality entries to Ballinrobe Mart on Wednesday (March 11th ) according to Tom McGuire.

Speaking following the general cattle sale, the mart manager said: “Despite the adverse weather and all the Covid-19 talk, trade held up remarkably well.” 

Heifers:

  • Limousin-X – 650 kg€1530.00 or €2.35/kg;
  • Charolais-X – 455 kg – €1130.00 or €2.48/kg;
  • Limousin-X – 325 kg – €855.00 or €2.63/kg;
  • Aberdeen Angus – 375 kg – €900.00 or €2.40/kg.

Bullocks:

  • Charolais-X – 505 kg – €1265.00 or €2.50/kg;
  • Simmental-X – 525 kg -€1160.00 or €2.21/kg;
  • Aberdeen-Angus-X – 485 kg – €1075.00 or €2.22/kg.

Dry cows:

  • Limousin-X – 755 kg – €1375.00 or €1.82/kg.

Weanling heifers:

  • Limousin-X – 315 kg – €825.00 or €2.62/kg.

Weanling bulls:

  • Charolais X – 365 kg – €1055.00 or €2.89/kg.

Others:

  • A Limousin cow with a heifer calf at foot – €1640.00

Sheep:

“Sheep numbers were up again on last week with the trade holding firm,” McGuire added. 

Store lambs made from €77-€113, factory lambs ranged from €125-€128, and ewes carrying couples peaked at €175; cull ewes went under the hammer from €85-€120.
