600 lots were offered for sale at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday (May 27th), according to George Candler – the mart’s auctioneer.
He noted that trade for spring lambs was sharper in comparison to the previous weeks; however, hoggets were difficult to sell.
“The lamb trade has stabilised after last week’s dramatic reductions but prices are still €20-€25/head behind 2018 returns.”
“With these returns, the sheep farmer is not full of confidence this year,” he added.
