“Those still at the factory gates should not stop fellow farmers who now need to dispose of beef before they go over-age or over-fit"

A small entry was offered for sale at Kilkenny on Thursday (September 19th), but trade remained very firm, aided by the fact that a lot of top quality were on offer, according to George Candler.

The auctioneer outlined that customers for light store bullocks and heifers were in short supply, but quality forward store bullocks and heifers were in demand.

Candler said that he met a lot of farmers at the ‘Ploughing’ who are “anxious to get beef away”.

“Here in the south-east, the exceptional dry period we have been experiencing has meant there is no big pressure yet to get cattle off the land.” He explained, adding that this has not been the case for the western seaboard.

“Those still at the factory gates should not stop fellow farmers who now need to dispose of beef before they go over-age or over-fit.”

“The mood has changed with the majority of farmers feeling the deal brokered has its flaws, but they need to go back to selling their beef now.”
