Bullocks and heifers met with strong farmer demand at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, March 5th, according to Brendan Egan.
He said that breeding heifers, in particular, met with a “flying” trade with a top price of €1095 over the kg forked out for a Simmental entry.
The mart manager explained that demand remained strong for quality weanlings due to farmer custom.
Egan noted that the dry cow trade was similar to last week, while cows with calves at foot made up to €2,070. “The calf ring has noticed increased numbers this week with variance in price, depending on quality, plainer, poor-quality lots remain a hard sell.”
