Prices hold at pre-Christmas levels at Ennis

Ennis Mart’s opening sale of 2020 attracted a small entry of cattle on Tuesday, January 7th, according to a mart spokesperson.

“Trade in the cattle section kicked off where it finished pre-Christmas with strong demand and similar prices.”

“Quality was variable but strong demand for quality lots.” the spokesperson added.

A Small entry of suckler pairings pushed up to €1,390, while heifer runners climbed to €590 and bulls topped out at €755. 

WEANLING BULLS:

  • 4 LM – 375kgs – €1,015 – €2.71/kg;
  • 1 LM – 290kgs – €805 – €2.78/kg;
  • 1 CHX – 300kgs – €850 – €2.83/kg;
  • 1 CH – 235kgs – €700 – €2.74/kg;
  • 3 LM – 237kgs – €680 – €2.87/kg;
  • 1 AA – 425kgs – €780 – €1.84/kg.

WEANLING HEIFERS:

  • 1 LMX – 405kgs – €840 – €2.07/kg;
  • 1 CH – 355kgs – €915 – €2.58/kg;
  • 3 LM – 220kgs – €555 – €2.52/kg;
  • 4 LMX – 330kgs – €875 – €2.65/kg;
  • 3 LM – 386kgs – €885 – €2.29/kg.

SHEEP:

The spokesperson said that the sheep trade “opened on a high” with improvements of €10/head on pre-Christmas prices for fleshed hoggets.

Likewise, the spokesperson concluded, cull ewes a “very strong trade” and made to €124.
