In-calf entries reach €2,200 at Elphin

There was a 95% clearance recorded in the cull cow ring at Elphin Mart’s opening sale of 2020 on Monday, January 6th, according to Gerry Connellan.

Entries sold to an average price of €1,088; these ranged from €615 to €1,415 – which was paid for an 815 kg Charolais.

The manager said that 94% of in-calf entries found new homes with an average price of €1,562 recorded; prices ranged from €1,240 to €2,200 for Limousin heifer, 8-months in-calf.

Bull weanlings

“We had a 100% clearance of bull weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €938 with a maximum price of €1,025 for 500 kg Charolais.

Heifer weanlings

“We had a 90% clearance of heifers weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • <300 kg – the average price achieved was €793 with a maximum price of €865 for a 300 kg Simmental.
  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €907 with a maximum price of €1,000 for 400 kg RWX.”
  • 400-500 kg – the average price was €840 with a maximum price of €930 for a 455 kg Charolais.

Sheep

“An 88% clearance of lambs with prices steady.”

Lambs:

  • 55 kg – €118;
  • 50.5 kg – €114;
  • 48.5 kg – €112.5;
  • 46 kg – €108;
  • 43 kg – €107;
  • 41 kg – €94.5;
  • 35 kg – €73.
