Dry cows met with a steady trade at Elphin Mart on Monday, November 18th, with an 88% clearance reported, according to Gerry Connellan – manager.
Entries ranged from €315 to €1,500 with an average price of €1,065 recorded.
Prices for in-calf entries were described as “fair” as prices varied from €1,110 to €1,550.
“47% clearance of pedigree animals - prices depending on quality.” The manager added.
In the 300-400 kg bracket, the average price achieved was €1,550 with a maximum price of €1,900 for a 390 kg Charolais. In the 400-500 kg category, the average price achieved was €1,207 with a maximum price of €1,450 for a 490 kg Charolais.
Entries greater than 500 kg sold to an average of €1,560 with a maximum price of €2,450 for a 715 kg Charolais.
94% of bull weanlings that went under the hammer found new homes, the manager added who outlined that prices were governed by quality.
Weanlings less than 300 kg averaged €658 with a maximum price of €960 for a 300 kg Charolais, while those in the 300-400kg bracket fetched an average of €768 with a maximum price of €1,015 for a Charolais, weighing 380 kg.
400-500 kg entries achieved an average of €820 with a maximum price of €1,020 for a 460 kg Charolais.
Bull weanlings weighing more than 500kgs averaged €1,128 with a maximum price of €1,140 reported for a 525 kg Charolais.
With prices governed by quality, there was an 88% clearance recorded in the heifer weanling ring.
The average price achieved by entries less than 300kgs was €606 with a maximum price of €815 for a 275 kg Charolais. Heifer weanlings 300-400 kg averaged €653 with a maximum price of €800 for a 390 kg Shorthorn-cross.
An average price of €783 was forked out for lots in the 400-500 kg bracket with a maximum price of €945 for a 440 kg Charolais.
“99% clearance of lambs with prices steady.” the manager added.
