“Sellers went home satisfied with a good trade prevailing" - Egan

Castlerea Mart’s annual show and sale of continental heifers and Belgian Blue weanling show and sale — which was held on Thursday (September 26th) attracted “a large entry of top-quality stock” according to Brendan Egan – manager.

Sellers went home satisfied with a good trade prevailing, helped in no small way by the quality of stock that was presented for sale.”

Egan outlined that a first-prize-winning weanling bull fetched €1,700 or €3.00/kg, while the first prize-winning Belgian Blue heifer climbed to €1,320 or €3.14/kg.

“Other categories of stock recorded prices similar to previous weeks with a good clearance taking place overall.”

Heifers:

  • LMX - 425KGS - €1020;

  • LMX - 420KGS - €995;

  • CH - 415KGS - €930;

  • BBX - 480KGS - €1445;

  • CH - 460KGS - €1200;

  • CHX - 455KGS - €1135;

  • CH - 600KGS - €1400;

  • CH - 560KGS - €1445;

  • LMX 510KGS - €1380.

Dry cows:

  • LMX - 775KGS - €1460;

  • CH - 920KGS - €1575;

  • LM - 750KGS - €1400;

  • AA - 495KGS - €605;

  • CH - 815KGS - €1500.

Suckler pairings:

  • Cows with calves at foot made from €1160-€1340/unit;

  • Springers ranged from €1130 to €1270/head.

Calves/runners:

“Numbers of calves have fallen while the runners have increased with prices ranging from €310 to €755 for the continental lots on offer.”

Weanling bulls:

  • CH - 295KGS - €945;

Some 200 lots were on offers at the mart’s annual show and sale of continental bullocks on Monday (September 23rd).

“Some top-quality stores recorded very strong prices, topping out at €815 over; lighter quality stores were the best sellers on the day.” Egan added.
