Castleisland Mart goes online

Castleisland Mart has introduced Mart Eye technology to allow it to expand its sales to a broader client base.

The mart held its first online auction on Monday (May 18th), with an entry of calves and weanlings.

Speaking to That’s Farming, a mart spokesperson said: “Due to the huge success and demand for stock, the mart is now running an online bull sale on Monday, June 1st. The mart has had very strong enquiries for all types and breeds of bulls.”

COWS:

The spokesperson pointed out that good-quality cows with flesh were in strong demand. FR cows ranged from €1.11- €1.32/ kg, while AA/HE entries fetched from €1.28- €1.89/ kg and continental cows ranged from €1.18- €1.98/ kg.

  • FR – 472kg – €725;
  • LM – 736kg – €1,390.

HEIFERS:

Continentals pushed from €1.73- €2.87/kg while AA/HE clicked from €1.65- €2.03/kg.

  • BB – 280kg – €730;
  • LM – 284kg – €725;
  • AA – 412kg – €800.

BULLOCKS:

FR went under the hammer from €1.44- €1.70/ kg, while AA/HE made from €1.50- €2.11/kg and continentals moved from €1.65- €2.39/ kg.

  • LM – 484kg – €1,000;
  • HE – 577kg – €1,105.

WEANLINGS:

Weanlings bulls sold from €2.03- €3.12/kg whilst heifers clicked from €2.37- €3.05/kg.

  • 10-month-old LM – 258kg – €720;
  • July-2019-born CH – 350kg – €890.

CALVES:

Strong calves were in in “very high” demand, according to the spokesperson. HE/AA bulls ranged from €145- €420.

  • A 3-week-old AA heifer – €85;
  • 4-week-old HE bull – €385.

“Continental calves were a flying trade, with calves making from €190- €565.”

  • A 3-week-old BB heifer – €370;
  • A 3-week-old LM bull – €185.
