According to the spokesperson, heavy ewes improved by €20/head, in cases, on the previous week’s levels at the mart’s sheep sale on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.

They reported that overall, there was a “better” trade for lambs and cast ewes.

Suffolk-cross hoggets ewes made from €170-€230/head, while heavy ewes made from €156-€208/head and feeding ewes climbed from €86-€148/head.

In the lamb ring, stores over 40kgs stood from €104-€126/head or €62-€86 over the kg, while those over 35kgs varied from €85-€104/head or €54-€76 over the kg.

€1.15m land sale

Meanwhile, a local farmer has forked out €1,155,000 for a circa 68-acre block of “top quality”, free-draining land with “extensive” road frontage at Clonmore, Edenderry, Co. Offaly.

The property came under the hammer, at Lawlor’s Hotel, Naas, on the afternoon of June 29th, 2023, in an auction handled by David Doyle of JP & M Doyle.

The property has a stock handling facility and ruins of a castle and outbuildings on-site.

The lands, while presently laid under lush grassland pasture, could serve as a multitude of farming enterprises sheltered by mature hedgerows and trees laid out in two main divisions.
