Small entry but ‘good’ trade at Ballinasloe’s first sale of 2020

Bullocks went under the hammer from €2.08-€2.48/kg, while heifers pushed from €1.90-€2.18/kg and cull cows fetched from €800-€1,250 at Ballinasloe Mart on Wednesday, January 8th.

Speaking following the general cattle sale, a mart spokesperson said: “Small numbers but a very good trade and clearance at our first cattle sale of 2020.”

Bullocks:

  • 1 LM – 965kg – €1,700 – €1.76/kg;
  • 1 LM – 585kg – €1,120 – €1.91/kg;
  • 1 LM – 480kg – €1,000 – €2.08/kg;
  • 1 LM – 335kg – €830 – €2.48/kg;
  • 1 LM – 405kg – €985 – €2.43/kg;
  • 1 LM – 375kg – €890 – €2.37/kg.

Heifers:

  • 1 AA – 505kg – €940 – €1.86/kg;
  • 1 AA – 500kg – €930 – €1.86/kg;
  • 1 AA – 500kg – €925 – €1.85/kg;
  • 1 CH – 420kg – €915 – €2.18/kg;
  • 1 AA – 475kg – €1.88/kg;
  • 1 HE – 445kg – €810 – €1.82/kg.

Averages:

  • Bullocks: €2.09/kg or €958;
  • Heifers: €1.90/kg or €903;
  • Dry cows: €982.
