Weanlings met with an improved trade at Balla Mart on Tuesday (November 5th), according to a spokesperson.
“In general, prices were up across the board – there were some good calves that were a credit to the farmers involved.”
The spokesperson noted that farmer customers made their presence felt at the ringside.
Light bull weanlings in the 200kg-350kg bracket were “in demand” and averaged €2.44/kg – an April-2019-born LMX – 320kg - €1,020 or €3.19/kg.
Bulls 350kg-450kg averaged €2.09/kg – a CHX – 380kg - €995, while heavier bulls weighing 450kgs plus averaged €1.92/kg – a LMX – 535kg - €1,100.
Heifers up to 350 kg averaged €2.28/kg – a March-2019-born CHX – 315kg - €930 or €2.95p/kg, while entries weighing 350kg-450kg averaged €2.16/kg – a CHX - 405kg - €1,040.
A top call of €1,230 was recorded in this ring for an entry with breeding potential.
