Over 500 lots changed hands at Balla Mart on Saturday (June 15th), according to a spokesperson.
“A fairly big sale for the time of year with three rings in operation. A good trade with prices holding up well because of the presence of some keen buyers.”
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg made up to €750 over and averaged €2.31/kg - a CHX - 395kg - €1,145 - €2.90/kg.
Entries weighing 400kg to 500kg averaged €2.38/kg - a CHX - 455kg - €1320 or €2.90/kg.
Bullocks 500kg plus were easier and averaged €2.04/kg, the spokesperson outlined - a BBX - 690kg - €1,500 - €810 over.
With 180 lots on offer, trade was similar to the previous week, the spokesperson said.
Lots up to 400 kg averaged €2.42/kg - a LMX - 380kg - €1,055 - €2.78/kg.
Entries 400kg-500kg averaged €2.28/kg - a CH - 415kg - €1,190 - €2.87/kg, while heavier lots averaged €2.26/kg - a CHX - 650kg - €1,580 - €2.43/kg.
Suckler pairings and cull cows
A top call of €2,185 was recorded in the cull cow ring for an October-2010-born Limousin cow weighing 1,050kg; an August-2008-born LMX cow with a LMX bull calf at foot climbed to €1,740.
There was a smaller sale of weanlings; bulls up to 350kg averaged €2.44/kg while those 350kg to 450kg averaged €2.23/kg.
