Some 300 cattle passed through two rings at Balla Mart on Saturday (July 7th), according to a spokesperson.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg made up to €600 with the weight and they averaged €2.09/kg – a LMX - 395kg - €1,080 - €2.73/kg.
Entries 400kg-500kg averaged €2.33/kg – LM - 475kg - €1230 - €2.59/kg, while bullocks 500kg plus were easier and averaged €1.91/kg – a LMX - 580kg - €1,275 or €695 over the kg.
Heifers up to 400 kg averaged €2.12/kg - a CH - 370kg - €990 or €2.6/kg, while entries 400kg-500kg averaged €2.16/kg – a CHX - 470kg - €1,140 or 2.68/kg.
Heifers 500kg met with an improved trade, according to a spokesperson and these averaged €2.06/kg – a LM - 625kg - €1,390 or €2.22/kg.
A top call of €1,545 was recorded in the cull cow ring for a May-2014-born CH weighing 780kg.
In the suckler ring, a May-2009-born LMX cow and LMX heifer calf at foot pushed up to €1,690.
With a smaller entry of weanlings, bulls up to 350kgs averaged €1.83/kg, while those in the 350-450kg bracket averaged €1.99/kg - CHX - 635KG - €1,100.
