We profile the type of people that may cross your path tomorrow!

Virginia Show is the place to be to meet some of the countries’ and some of the world’s best characters, around the block.

The 76th Annual Virginia Agricultural Show is going to be like no other and various figures are set to cross our path tomorrow, Wednesday.

From merging and mixing with prize-winning four-legged champions, to Dairy enthusiasts, to students, blood-bred farmers, young handlers and stock judges, there is a real treat in store for us all!

  • Dairy Enthusiasts

Close to every member of the dairy farming community are to be found on the showgrounds on this very special day.

The crowning of the 34th Diageo Baileys Champion Dairy Cow and Heifer requires all eyes to be fixed surely on the showing ring, the facial expressions of judges and all the mooo-vements made!

If you as much blink, you may just miss an essential detail.

The contest could nearly even be compared to the Rose of Tralee International Festival of the livestock world, how fitting( for the week that is in it)!

It surely is udderly fantastic! (See what did just there!)

  • Cattle enthusiasts

Virginia Agricultural Showgrounds is home to many unbeaten prize-winners for the day.

Quite possibly, the exhibits on display have proven their worth at Tullamore and several local and regional Agricultural show, with many prestigious championship titles under their belts.

The €3000 Champion Weanlings and €2000 Champion Beef Bullock competitions are set to garner the attention of thousands this year.

The winners will undoubtedly have to beat off stern competition in order to fetch the ribbons.

  • The Showing Family

As an ideal mid-week family day out, Virginia is an ideal day for showing family to draw show season 2017 to a close.

Many round off the calendar with Virginia Show, after battling through the show rings from June earlier that year.

Stock-handlers might just have time to nab another few Young Handler trophies, red ribbons and champion cups, in order to build on your collection of silverware.

  • The romantic duo

As the second and third cuts of silage season 2017 are now nearly dusted, you could try and squeeze a few hours out of your schedule, to take your significant other to Cavan.

If your other half is just as enthusiastic about four and five star hotels, maybe you could convince them to recognise the value of four and five star two-legged bulls and heifers! Who knows, sure there is an idea!

  • Students

Before the return to school which is as close as next week, the young guns of the industry are enjoying their final branch of freedom, before heading back to the books.

As CAO offers are making their way to students this week, Virginia Show wouldn’t make a bad day out!

  • Newbie

There is always a first time for everything, isn’t that what they say?

As the show commenced back in the war-times, you must be hiding under a rock if you haven’t heard just how good of a day-out at Virginia Show can be!

Everyone in the parish has attended at this stage and with all the hype, you are aswell to go and investigate it for yourself.

The bosses should let you escape from the yard for a few hours, sure you have to get out and about. .

Over-sized rucksacks filled with food and tea, may always prove to be helpful if you manage to get the other side of the farm gate.

Pop Wednesday 23rd August in your diary and you are sure to have a fun-filled day of mixing and merging!
