Ireland’s primary Agricultural Exhibition, one of Europe’s largest Agricultural events is set to take centre stage next week.
That’s Farming has profiled some of the characters that you will bump into at the three-day event next week!
- Cattle enthusiasts:
The cream of the crop is on display at the National Ploughing Champions.
You will find a collection of exceptional champions in the dairy and beef society tents.
It is here that you will meet cattle breeders; cattle judges and breeding advisors examining an animal from top to bottom - their head; forequarters; hindquarters; top line; loin and pins; legs; backend and locomotion.
- Machinery Maniacs.
Tullamore will be home to some of the latest machinery brands and models that have hit the marketplace.
You’re sure to meet quite a few shiny metal syndrome suffers - you can take that one for granted.
Once the buses start rolling in, you will spot them in their thousands gathering around sitemaps at entrances.
Second-level students dress quite distinctly with some parts of their school uniform ( usually a crested jumper), while others opt for farm-themed merchandise or a pair of ‘dealer’ boots.
- The Family
Commonly you will find families while navigating around the showgrounds.
The ‘Irish Mammy’ always comes prepared for these days out, with flasks of tea; bags of sugar; snacks and sandwiches.
- City Slickers
Some city slickers can be heard at the National Ploughing Championships screaming at the sight of a cow lifting her tail or a weanling ‘chewing the cud!’
The city residents are sure to be going around with their colourful wellies that were newly purchased the day before, or may have been used to do an occasional spot of gardening.
- Romance seeks
You’ll be sure to meet a few that are looking for a better other half!
