As an attendee for many years, Catherina profiles the type of people that may cross your path this Sunday!

As 60,000 flock through the gates of Tullamore Agricultural show on an annual basis, you are sure to meet some of the countries or indeed, some of the world’s best characters.

As an attendee for close to a decade, many of them have crossed my path.

My experience has surpassed seeing prize-winning four legged champions, blood-bred farmers, young handlers and international visitors.

  • Cattle Cravers

Tullamore Show is the meeting place for all the cattle craving men and women of the world.

They are to be found huddling around the cattle ring, where all eyes are securely fixed on the exhibits, exhibitors and the judges.

With the country’s best on display at the AIB National Livestock Show, it really is the Rose of Tralee competition of the cattle showing world.

With the all the accessories attached, shampooed up to the nines, new showing attire especially sourced for the pinnacle in the farming calendar.

A top-notch show is really put on, by many exhibitors in the pedigree and commercial cattle circles.

  • The Showing Family

Classified as the ideal family day out, Tullamore is an ideal day for members of the family to showcase their talent and the talent of their animals.

Families participate in young handler competition, in bid to secure more silverware.

All targets are set on scooping another champion cup and rosette for the cabinet proudly on display in the family living room, which has been constructed especially in order to showcase the family’s success.

  • The romantic duo

It’s a perfect day out, so why not bring your significant other.

If you’re a farming woman, bring your other half along with you; see if he is any good at spotting a five-star four-legged prize-winner.

Likewise, if you’re a farming man; see if you can convince your other half to fall head over heels in love with the farming world.

  • Machinery Nuts

From the flash wheels to the high-powered machine, all take dominance in the showgrounds.

GRASSMEN merchandise makes its rather large expected appearance in their thousands.

The aim of visiting the machinery exhibition is to get as many Snapchat pictures and videos, in order to make your silage-making friends that can’t get to the show, jealous!

You couldn’t be at those capers!

  • Students

As the Summer holidays are drawing to a close, with the return to school just around the corner, many students head to the Tullamore Showgrounds.

You will be sure to find many Leaving Certificate students pounding the grounds this year, ahead of the dreaded results day, that has been earmarked in the calendar since early June.

Students are set to pick up the golden piece on paper on Wednesday.

Rumour has it that you should not mention this on Sunday, in order to experience a satisfactory show this year.

  • International Visitors

As Tullamore Show provides us with cream of the crop, many international visitors take the trip overseas to officiate as exhibitors, judges and some event attend for the entertainment provided.

Many people travel the hop and jump of the sea in order to set foot in Tullamore on this very special day.

  • Newbie

There is always a first time for everything. Having heard and read all about the Tullamore Ag show, many go and investigate it for themselves.

These attendees are the ones hugging the large-sized map of the showgrounds, with the several jam-packed rows causing some confusion.

They usually can be found in their groups, with over-sized rucksacks, full of food and tea. You would swear there was a food shortage happening!

After all, you have to go. Being the only one in the neighbourhood that is still yet to attend, you can’t let the parish down.

It would be a rather embarrassing encounter and you really would give Limousin cattle a run for their colour.

Pop Sunday 13th in your diary and you are sure to have a fun-filled day of mixing and merging!
