“By the power of Facebook, you bailed us out on this one” - 18 hay bales reported as stolen, were returned to their owner following a discovery on Facebook.

18 hay bales which were reported as stolen were ‘lifted by mistake’, the PSNI has confirmed.

PSNI Ballymena launched an investigation earlier this morning when the unit was notified of the suspected theft which occurred at a property on the Rawbrae Road just outside Whitehead.

A statement released by PSNI Ballymena outlined:

“The hay bales which were stolen between 8pm last night & 10am this morning are usually valued between £15-£20 each, however, due to the recent warm weather their value has increased to around £30 per bale, making the total value almost £600.”

“It is likely a number of vehicles would have been required to lift and transport these items. Did you see anything or anyone in the area that you now think could have been involved in this crime?”

“Bailed out”

In an updated post on its Facebook page, published this evening read:

“Another farmer read our post regarding the stolen hay bales and it transpired they were lifted by mistake.”

“By the power of Facebook, you bailed us out on this one.” The post concluded.
