On Thursday 26th of April, farmers flocked in good numbers to attend the farm of dairy farmer James Nally in Glasson, Co. Westmeath.
The day, organised by Specialist Nutrition, was a chance for farmers to learn all about how James made the successful transition from milking a herd of 100 cows to double that size, with further plans to increase to 260 cows.
James was of course using Liquigold by Specialist nutrition, which we learned on the day is a liquid feed made from molasses CMS, syrup and raffinate. This blend of liquid feed also enabled James to increase his protein levels, while his yields also increased by 20%!
Farmers were informed that the liquid feed also helps maintain body condition, is high in energy, highly palatable and crammed full of protein! Not only that, but we learned all about how the product can be used when making pit silage, as well as other products available. Farmers were also informed of the many other products on offer, such as Eornasyrup, Crediextra, and many more!
There were many speakers on the day, such as Conor Quinlan who kicked things off by telling us about the different products on offer and what benefits they could add to your farm. Also speaking on the day was the Nigel Condell of Specialist nutrition, showing us the hard facts behind James’s switch to using liquid feeds. James Nally himself also spoke a few words about making the switch, as well as his other business selling Manitech loaders and how they can be of benefit to your farm.
If that were not enough, there were many more companies there on the day offering advice on their products and how they could help improve your farm and increase efficiency. As well as treating farmers to new information, all attendees were treated to a free BBQ on the day. If you would like any more information on any Specialist Nutrition product or future open days, you can get that here
Don’t worry if you missed out on the trip to James’s farm, as there is another farm open day, organised by Specialist Nutrition, just around the corner. Taking place on May 15th on the farm of Kevin & Joe Doran, Naas at 11am, with all welcome to attend!
ThatsFarming will also be there on the day, bringing you coverage via Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. If you haven’t seen the coverage from James’s open day, you can still do so via our Facebook here and our Twitter here.
