Gardaí have begun operations to tackle rural crime, with the arrest of six people in two separate operations, as reported by RTÉ news.
Last night Gardaí arrested four men in the Lucan area of Co. Dublin, in connection with a robbery in Mullingar Co. Westmeath. It is thought the men had left the capital earlier that day, in a car which they had stolen.
Two of the men were aged in their 30’s, while one was in his 60’s and the other in his 20’s. All three men are from Dublin and were taken to Mullingar for questioning. They were found to be in possession of equipment which may be used to break into homes, as well as jewelry which is thought to have been stolen.
The second operation carried out by Gardaí saw two men arrested, as part of a new task force set up to tackle rural crime. The two men were arrested in Co. Kildare and come after the launch of the Gardaí Winter Thor operation.
We do not yet know if any of arrests made, were in connection with the attack on the Offaly farmer.
