This was the message from TD Martin Kenny yesterday as he attended the Bannow And Rathangan show at Killag in County Wexford.
Martin Kenny addressed attendees, telling them that increasing farm incomes must be a priority for the government.
He said the Killag show having had 67 previous shows, is a testament to the influence of agriculture in Irish society.
He added that people who are only one or two generations away from the land “must be protected”.
The Sinn Féin agriculture spokesperson, Kenny, said that his party remain committed to “the survival of the family farm”, with all that it offers local communities.
Kenny continued by informing the attendees that European consumers are aware of the uniqueness of the Irish Agri-food sector.
He says the grass-fed, free roaming cattle and sheep practices in place here ensures the quality of our meat and dairy is “second to none”.
He added that “farmers…should be reaping the rewards of their input to that quality.
