Bullocks over 490kgs in demand at Kilkenny Mart

A larger entry comprising 1,100 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, March 25th, 2021.

According to livestock auctioneer, George Candler, forward store bullocks and heifers met an “excellent” trade.

“Cull cows and heifers saw a 98% clearance. Bullocks, especially continentals in excess of 490 kilos, were in demand with €2.75 to €2.80 per kilo, achieved on a number of occasions.”

“Aberdeen-Angus-types, both bullocks and heifers in demand, with the bulk selling from €1.90 to €2.35 per kilo. Quality Friesian bullocks ranging from €1.70 to €2.05 per kilo.”

Kilkenny Mart report – cattle prices – 18-03-2021

Just over 900 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, March 18th, according to George Candler.

The mart’s auctioneer reported another “good solid trade for all lots with quality marginally less than last week”.

Candler reported that Friesian bullocks exceeded €2.00/kg with close to €2.30/kg for better-quality Hereford and Angus-types.

  • Bullocks 600kgs – €1.80-€2.55/kg or €1,080-€1,710/head:
  • 500-600kgs – €1.75-€2.50/kg or €980-€1,460/head:
  • 400-500kgs – €1.70-€2.85/kg or €780-€1,330/head:
  • <400kgs – €1.60-€2.96/kg or €630-€1,010/head;
  • Friesian cull cows – €1.30-€1.65/kg;
  • Continental cull cows – €1.40-€2.05/kg;
  • Beef-types – €2.00-€2.30/kg or €1,050-€1,500/head;
  • Forward store heifers – €1.90-€2.60/kg or €980-€1,270/head:
  • Store heifers – €1.60-€2.75/kg or €580-€910/head.
