A major search and rescue operation is currently underway off the coast of Mayo this morning after a Coast Guard helicopter went missing in the early hours of the morning.
The helicopter was returning from a successful rescue operation where it had provided cover for coast guard helicopter 118.
Rescue 118 completed its mission of rescuing a Scottish fisherman some 240km west of Eagle Island in Mayo.
Helicopter 116 then was due to return to the coast but has not been seen since.
RTE morning Ireland have reported that one man has been found but is in a critical condition.
Eugene Clonan head of operations of the Irish Coast Guard told RTE morning Ireland that ‘hopes are fading’ of finding the remaining crew.
The search continues.
As That’s Farming also covers rural and marine affairs we felt it important to cover this story. Our thoughts are with the rescue crew and their families at this time.
