Third-generation butcher, Keith Walsh of EWS Butchers rose to the top at the Young Butchers International, Cutting and Cooking Competition in Perth, Western Australia over the course of the week.
The Donegal native claimed a goal medal and the overall runner-up title, beating off stiff competition.
Keith was sponsored by Lifeline Perth and Butchery Excellence Ireland and participated in the Young Butcher of The year Competition at World Butchers Challenge in Belfast in order to gain his place, making this his second time to venture across the waters to Australia to take home a World Class Award for his country.
Keith’s background is steeped in the butchery craft, with his family’s first involvement in the sector kick-started 1962 when Eddie Walsh swung open the doors of his first butcher shop in Ballintra, Co. Donegal.
“We are very much a family business and everyone is involved. Butchery and Farming have been a core part of our family for generations now.” Keith Walsh told Catherina Cunnane of That’s Farming in a recent interview.
