Tuesday’s Lamb Show and Sale sponsored by FBD showed a positive outlook for the lambs going forward, according to Marian Devane - Manager of Tuam Mart.
First-prize in the best pen of butcher lambs category was secured by J.J Walsh, Gardenfield ( - 49kgs - €112), while second-prize was scooped by Anthony McAndrew, Mayo Abbey, Claremorris for his entries - 52.5kg - €112.
The best pen of factory lambs was owned by Darren Connolly, Cloughanshill - these weighed 44.6 kg and made €92.
Second-prize went to Michael Corless, Killooney, Dunmore - his lots were 45kg and fetched €100.
Vincent Healy, Ballymoney, Dunmore had the best pen of store lambs - 42.5kg- €90, while Val Varley, Kilclooney, Milltown took home the second-prize ribbon for his entries - 40 kg - €87.
Marian Devane reported “good demand” for the limited number of hoggets and breeding ewes that went under the hammer; old ewes peaked at €120.
Monday 13th August - Cattle sale at 10.30 a.m, followed by a special weanling sale at 6.00p.m.
Tuesday 21st August - Annual Sheep Show & Sale. Show classes for Ewe Hoggets; Breeding Ewes; & Ewe Lambs. The mart advises that electronic tags would be an advantage (ewe lambs).
