Joe Kinsella told That’s Farming that there was a full clearance for cattle. Nice quality Charolais heifers 750kg made from €1500-€1550. 300kg Limousin and Charolais heifers made between €800-€950.

Top quality heifers and cows were offered for sale as part of the second branch of Baltinglass Mart’s annual Show and Sale for heifers and cows took place on Wednesday, February 7th.

A notable number of factory, farmer and export buyers were in attendance and auctioneer George Candler kept the pace lively for the entire sale.

Speaking to That’s Farming, Joe Kinsella of Baltinglass Mart said:

“We had a full yard of heifers and forty cows. Batches of nice quality Charolais heifers 750kg made from €1500-€1550. 300kg Limousin and Charolais heifers made between €800-€950. There was an improved trade for cattle all-round, with a full clearance.”

“We are seeing a lot of people purchasing stock for a shorter winter and others are replacing cattle now that they would have sold before Christmas,” Joe added.

Carlow farmer Dermot O'Sullivan, Ardoyne, Tullow Co. Carlow rose to the top with his champion of the show and sale at Baltinglass Mart with his Limousin Heifer weighing 865kg and making €1900.

A local farmer from Talbotstown, Kiltegan, Donal and Pat Foley won the Best group for his three Belgian Blue Heifers weighing 655kg which made €1690.
